The Six Senses of the Director: early notes

A series of early thoughts and jottings by Judie Christie (Creative Producer, CPR) about the idea of the Directors' Forum and specifically it's title. As we come to the close of the first set of workshops, a look back.

The working title of The Six Senses of the Director offers an early and loose thematic framework as signposts to possible clusterings of focus and exploration:
Sight: Composition. Space. Bodies in space. Gestus. Movement. Density. Scenography. Mis-en-scene. Scale. Sharing‘vision’. Light. Ways of seeing. Ways of looking. Monysemic/ Polysemic. Representation and mimesis. Spectator, witness, reception. Perceptivity. Perspective. Proximity/ Distance. Stillness. Viewpoints. Imagination. Immediacy and Hypermediacy. Signs and signification. Focus. Collage.

Hearing: Soundscape. Musicality. Poetry. Director as Vocal Coach. Listening. Silence. Textuality. Languages. The Word. Harmony and Dissonance. Psychosis.

Taste: Aesthetics. Flavours. Rasa. The raw and the cooked. Nourishment. Training. Jouissance. Culture. Context. Indigineity. Foreign. Slow cooking and fast food.

Smell: Memory. Intuition. Corporeality and materiality. Invisibility. Ethos. Politics. Viscerality. Intention. Interactivity. Exchange. Energy.

Touch: Actant. Character. Emotion. Physicality. Viewpoints. Instinct. Fear. Risk.

Sixth Sense: Inculturation. Liveness. Presence. Pre-expressivity. Intuition. Instinct. Impulse. Curiosity. Pre-cortical. Danger. Unknown. Habitus. Magic. Mystery.
